Key Differences

DBT vs CBT

DBT is based on CBT. Thus, there are many similarities between the two approaches.

Key differences include the emphasis in DBT on validation, as well as tolerating uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT also includes a focus on accepting uncomfortable or difficult life situations while committing to making changes. DBT additionally draws on the philosophy and practice of mindfulness.
